“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
This key verse about revival reminds us that before we pray, seek God’s face, or repent, we must first humble ourselves. Without humility, how can our prayers and repentance be sincere?
The greatest hindrance to revival is PRIDE. It also blocks prevailing prayer and healthy spiritual growth. Our greatest problem is not the devil, low self-esteem, or injustices suffered—it’s PRIDE.
For this problem, God has given us a specific way to humble ourselves. It’s been called “God’s unpleasant gift for lancing pride.”
“I proclaimed a fast…that we might humble ourselves before our God.” (Ezra 8:21)
“I humbled my soul with fasting.” (Psalm 35:13)
“So it was, when Ahab heard those words, that he…fasted… ‘See how Ahab has humbled himself before Me?’” (1 Kings 21:27-29)
The Pen of Inspiration explains that fasting “aids us in perceiving the grievous character of sin, in humbling the heart before God, and receiving His pardoning grace” (Thoughts From the Mount of Blessings, p. 86).
Let’s lance the pride together. Will you prayerfully consider joining me in prayer and fasting this Wednesday, or on another day that works for you?
